The Story Behind Pathsie
WHERE IT STARTED
The outdoors has pulled at me since I was a kid. I was seven or eight the first time I found the nerve to wander off into nature on my own — endlessly curious about the animals, insects, and plants that shared that world with me. I always wondered what was on the other side of that hill on the horizon, past those forests and mountains.
GROWING UP OUTSIDE
As a teenager, I found a few friends with the same itch, and together we had our own small adventures in the hills and forests. We didn't really know what we were doing, but we never ran out of enthusiasm. In college, I joined a local mountaineering club, went on regular hikes, and finally got to learn technical climbing and alpinism hands-on. Not long after, a few close friends and I formed a tighter group and started hitting the trails whenever we got the chance. We're still out there today — still picking up new things, still passing that same love for the outdoors on to the people around us.

PROBLEMS, AND THE IDEAS THAT FOLLOWED
At some point, I realized planning a trip was always more work than it should be. The load usually fell on one person, and because nobody else made time for the planning, things got forgotten and details fell through the cracks.
So I started thinking — what if a trip could come together in minutes instead of days of back-and-forth messages? A shared checklist. A group chat. An easy way to split costs without anyone quietly footing someone else's share.
And beyond that, I kept imagining someone stuck at a nine-to-five, dreaming about a weekend hike, who could just open an app and find the perfect adventure partner — even if none of their friends were free.
And what if the people waiting at home — the ones who worry — never had to?
Route recording, GPX/KML export, off-track alerts, live location sharing, one-tap SOS, satellite connection, and so much more — the excitement of building a system that could actually turn all of this into reality is what got me going.
TRUST, NOT FOLLOWERS
Meeting someone through an app to go hiking together requires a completely different kind of trust than meeting them for coffee. So I felt that trust needed to actually mean something — badges you can't buy, only earn by actually getting out there, and a system where two people are only marked "verified" once both of them, independently, confirm they actually met. None of this was ever meant to be the point of the trip.
This is why Pathsie exists.
